My name is Miss Rogers and I have been teaching now for 6 years in both Spokane and Seattle schools. I have always had a passion for working with kids, which led me to pursue a degree in Psychology and a Masters in Teaching, both at Gonzaga University (GO ZAGS!). I truly love this age because it is filled with such fun learning and even more important growth milestones! This will be my third year here at CKS and from my experience of going to Catholic and Jesuit schools my entire life, I can honestly say that CKS is one of the best communities that I have had the privilege of being a part of! I am really looking forward to our upcoming year together filled with such fun learning activities planned and I’m even more excited to begin making lifelong memories with all you and your wonderful kiddos as we embark on this journey together in second grade!
In second grade, we strive toward building a cooperative, respectful, and most importantly kind community of learners! Throughout our year together we work on building strong relationships and trust within our classroom community by creating a safe and positive space for engaging learning that makes our students passionate and excited to learn each and every day! At CKS we dilligently work toward teaching the whole child by creating unique and differentiated learning to meet and exceed the individual needs of every child!
In second grade we have so many exciting and fun things to look forward to throughout our entire year together! A special tradition we have in the fall is our independent Saints projects and presentations. In preparation for leading our All Saints Day Mass, each second grader is assigned a specific Saint that they will be learning about. The students practice their leadership and public speaking skills when presenting their Saint to the school and Parish community.
During our fairy tale unit in the spring, we get the special opportunity of going on our annual field trip to Storybook Theater. The second graders get to experience the seasonal and interactive fairytale story put on by the very talented actors!
Also in the springtime, we also have our special first Eucharist trip to Bishop Blanchet. We get the privilege of attending Mass with the high school students as well as with other 2nd grade students from other Catholic schools within our Archdiocese!
Second grade is a year full of big milestones with Sacraments, field trips, and many opportunities to build leadership skills!
