I went to Christ the King from preschool through the eighth grade. I loved science class with Mrs. Walker and English with Ms. Cecchini. After that, I went to Seattle Prep. My favorite class was anatomy and physiology taught by CKS graduate Brian Meza. I developed a major interest in athletic training and played soccer throughout high school. After graduating from Seattle Prep, I went to the University of Portland in their School of Nursing. I graduated in 2008 and I have been working at Seattle Children's Hospital ever since. I am a Charge Nurse on the Surgical Unit; we work with patients ranging from newborns to patients in their early 20s. Our specialties include: Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Cardiac Surgery, and Solid Organ Transplant. It is a very rewarding job, and I enjoy helping patients get back to being normal kids. As a Charge Nurse I am responsible for many things, but my favorites are: helping our new nurses with their critical thinking skills, and teaching them the ability to prioritize important tasks. When I'm not working, I love trying new foods, traveling to new places, and reading books and playing video games at home.
Erik Johnsen graduated from CKS in 2003. After CKS, he attended Seattle Preparatory School where he played soccer with his older brother Arne Johnsen. In high school he also played electric bass in a funk band called the D Street A’s. He went to California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo on a soccer scholarship but decided to focus on school after a knee injury during his freshman year kept him from continuing with his athletic career. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences in 2012 and is currently pursuing a doctorate of pharmacy degree at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy with a focus on chemical addiction and recovery to be completed in 2016. His pharmaceutical areas of interest include diabetes management, chemical addiction and recovery, and chronic disease management in marginalized populations. His other interests include a strong passion for record collecting, ethnomusicology, and contemporary comic books.
