Hello, from your friendly neighborhood Art Teacher! I live locally, in Shoreline, with my husband, 2 kids, and 2 Axolotls. I enjoy the outdoors, travel, live performance painting, and cooking. I feel honored to be helping get the kids at CKS excited about Art in a variety of forms. I come with 20 years of Art experience and a passion for making the world a more beautiful place for all. My top priorities in the classroom are collaboration, growth, and creativity. Cheers to another wonderful year at CKS!
Art class begins with foundational observation, drawing and color skill development which lays the groundwork for students to create expressive and thoughtful works of art. Throughout the year, students will be exposed to a variety of artists, styles of art, and two and three-dimensional mediums. Additionally, art class offers many opportunities to develop problem-solving, critical-thinking, collaboration and teamwork skills. This is their chance to express their artisitic and creative side. I am following the Art of Education’s Art curriculum for grades K-8. Each grade will go through up to 10 different units, all with a unique focus.
Students will gain a knowledge and understanding of basic art theory concepts, experiment with various media and express their creativity using Elements of Art and Principles of Design. Students will engage in exploration and imaginative play with materials. They will demonstrate safe and proper procedures for using materials, tools, and equipment while making art. Elementary students will discover their inner artist and create artworks while having fun at the same time.
Middle school students will learn in depth of the Elements of Art and Principles of Design and its use in various artworks throughout history. They will gain the ability to critique artworks from around the world and be able to distinguish the different styles of art. Students will combine concepts collaboratively to generate innovative ideas for creating art. They will demonstrate willingness to experiment, innovate, and take risks to pursue ideas, forms, and meanings that emerge in the process of art-making or designing At the end of the year, students will be familiar with various art media and the techniques used to create their own masterpieces.
