All students attend a daily class, weekly Mass, and continue giving service and stewardship to others. The wonders of God's love is woven into the middle school student's day.
The ELA curriculum is prepared with developmentally appropriate rigor to engage and challenge students in the four Common Core standards-based areas: Reading, Writing, Language, and Speaking and Listening. Using content-rich texts (fiction and non-fiction), project-based learning and dedicated writing instruction, the ELA curriculum is designed to yield confident, expressive and accomplished students.
The Social Studies curriculum adheres to the state recommended content areas: 6th Grade - Ancient Civilizations, 7th Grade - World History and Washington State History, 8th Grade - US History. Focused on the National Social Studies interdisciplinary standards (civics, economics, history, geography and social studies skills), each course, in increasing depth and complexity serves to develop, practice and hone critical thinking skills.
Christ the King follows the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards and the Common Core State Standards. Our middle school math program helps students become problem solvers which is critical to successful teaching and learning. Students are encouraged to think creatively and to understand that the process is as important as the solutions. CKS teaches math in a differentiated learning environment. Many students take Alegbra I in 8th grade with the goal of taking Alegebra II as a freshman. In addition, many students take Geometry in their 8th grade year.
The science program is inquiry based with most classes involving hands-on investigation. Students will observe, infer, predict, collect data, communicate and collaborate with others around interesting science topics. The program helps to prepare middle school students for High School by focusing on good study skills and memorization techniques.
