Who is Behind the Panther?

Have you ever wondered how the CKS mascot became the panther? I’ve wondered that for a while, and I decided to find out.

Ms. Cecchini, our CKS principal, says it really started with Rachel Johnson (as the Parent Club president) in 2011. The idea of a mascot was being discussed, and the panther seemed like a good one. She researched panther costumes online and found that Seattle Prep (where my cousins go!!) had one they retired. It was in need of
major repairs, so a Christ the King parishioner and grandparent took over. She fixed the head and tail, and washed it (in her bath tub) and the costume was ready! It first was presented at the 2011 CKS bingo night, worn by Mrs. Coolidge. After that, CKS student Clara Blue took over. Since then, the panther has been at many BOBs, (Bite of Broadview) Greenwood parades, and other school events.

I think the panther is a good mascot for our school because panthers are strong and confident, but also gentle and loyal. I think these are characteristics of the CKS students, as well.
